Workshop on Application of Juncao Technology in LAC Countries Held Online

An online regional capacity building workshop for Latin America and the Caribbean on Juncao technology and its support to achieve sustainable agriculture and the SDGs was held via video links on March 17.
Executive Vice Governor Guo Ningning greeted the participants and addressed the seminar. She said, as the cradle and tech hub of Juncao, Fujian will take this seminar as an opportunity to promote international cooperation on Juncao technology through personnel training and technical support, in a bid to see the tech take roots in more LAC countries. She hoped that with complementary strengths in resources, the two sides could pursue win-win BRI cooperation in areas such as agriculture, mining and manufacturing, foster new areas of import and export growth, jointly build industrial parks, expand friendly exchanges in education, culture, tourism, etc., establish more sister city relationships, and promote international cooperation against COVID-19.
Deng Boqing, Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), said that Juncao technology is a successful practice that China has used to promote poverty alleviation and also an important contribution by China to global sustainable development. The CIDCA is working closely with developing countries, including LAC countries, to promote the implementation of Juncao technology projects in more countries. The CIDCA will put development first and focus on key areas of cooperation to help LAC countries achieve sustainable development.
Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries of Trinidad and Tobago, and Maria Eunises Rivas Robleto, Executive Secretary of Nicaraguan Council for Science and Technology believed that this workshop promotes cooperation in the transfer of knowledge, technology and innovation for the benefit of people across countries. Amson Sibanda from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) said that the department will continue to promote Juncao technology in developing countries for the early realization of the 2030 SDGs.
Professor Lin Zhanxi, chief scientist of the China National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology at Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Dr. Lin Dongmei, Vice Director of the center, and Professor Arailde Urben of Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (Brazil) also attended and addressed the event.
The workshop was jointly held by the UN DESA, CIDCA and Fujian Foreign Affairs Office.
